Tawow! Welcome!
The intention for our Prenatal teacher training is to invite helping professionals and registered yoga teachers to learn ways to integrate yoga as a support for people during pregnancy and beyond. This foundational prenatal yoga teacher training will adhere to the Yoga Alliance training standards while also offering students a thorough understanding of how practicing the eight limbs of yoga can deepen our ability to meet the needs of the people we support on and off of the yoga mat.
Students will complete a self-paced course, led by Dr. Melissa Jay, required readings, and attend two weekend modules to complete 85-hours of contact hours. This training is experiential in nature and will invite students to experience all practices and teachings for themselves with the intention of deepening their ability to walk their talk, as prenatal yoga teachers. Each weekend module will be designed to resemble a retreat-like format so that each student can feel nurtured and, in turn, nurture each other within the group practice, discussions, and practicum components.
While students will learn yoga and meditation techniques as a form of self-care for us as teachers and the people we guide, teach, and practice with. Students of Canmore Counselling will not learn to utilize yoga as a treatment for mental health concerns. Also, specific to this prenatal teacher training, students will learn to guide people to seek the advice of their health care provider with any health-related or pregnancy-related issues surrounding pregnancy, labor and delivery, or before starting any pregnancy-related programs.
Students will learn to bring prenatal yoga into their scope of practice. Our school is dedicated to providing opportunities for self-reflection as a means of enhancing self-awareness. Each student will be required to complete an application for enrollment and create a plan to ensure mind-body-spirit-heart support throughout the training.
